The diet is going well. Thanks for asking.  I don’t know if I have lost any weight, but I have been eating a lot of tomatoes. So, I’ll call it good.
Well, except for last night. Last night I was hungry.  I mean, the kind of hungry where even if you are full you are hungry. The only thing that would have satisfied that hunger would have been movie theater popcorn with lots of butter.  So, I ate some fruit and veggies.  Didn’t satisfy but it filled me up.

It’s been raining a lot here.  That’s probably no big surprise. I mean, rain is a part of spring, no?  The big surprise is how slippery grass is!  Plus, it was recently cut.  So I have little piles of cut grass randomly placed in my yard and driveway.  It’s a like trying to walk on a slip-and-slid in nylons during a tropical storm in some areas.

Today though the sun is shining.  I don’t know how long it will last.  I hope it will be sunny for a few days. We are in the time of year when school has several events and outings.  For example, Friday Son has a field trip and Monday Daughter has one.  Thursday is awards night.  Yup, the end of the school year wind down has begun.

You know what else has begun? Season Finales.  You do know what Season Finale means, right?  It roughly translates to “Cruel on-the-edge-of-your-seat worse possible moment to end a show episode”!  You know it does.  I mean, we’ve all been there yelling at the tv.  Usually it sounds something like this:  “OH NO! you can NOT! leave it there!”  or  “Uh! They can’t die!!!”  or “Bu.. I… How…. aarrrggh!”  with hands thrown up in the air.

One show I watch tries to be kind. They nicely wrap up a season with a little bow of “end of chapter xx” and show you a glimpse of the next chapter/season.  However, that’s just a minute or two taste.  You still have to wait.  It’s like bringing out the desert and giving you a sample of your favorite delight on one of those tiny disposable sample spoons and saying “Sorry, you can’t have it right now.”  Cruel I tell ya! Cruel!

Now, if you’ll excuse me. I must make a diet-shake, open some windows and catch up on my on-line shows.

Part 3 of 3

Part 1 Here (opens in this window)

Part 2 Here (opens in this window)

.

Day 4:
Yesterday we went to Uncle’s house.  He still has power.  We charged our phones and charged my camera battery.  The camera battery did not get a full charge though.  His town is running out of water, so no shower there.

We went to Hubby’s friend’s house and showered. I washed my hair more than once and shaved.  It felt good!

Most of the ice melted off.  I won’t get a bunch of photos now.  I will, however, get photos of the branch on my house before it comes down – hopefully.

I spent too much money on food I don’t normally buy.  Chips are easy.  Canned food is expensive!  Neither require electricity.

I wonder what today will hold…

.

.

Day 5:
Hubby was offered, or rather re-re-offered the job that he left his last one for and left yesterday.  His friend took him to the main office out of state.  He was to stay in a hotel last night.  Bet he’s cleaner than me today!

We are ready for another shower, but have no place to go.

Oddly enough, I’m even wishing I could do laundry.

I think I am through the initial net-withdrawal.  Yes, I know I say that while blogging with pen and paper.  But, really, the hardest part is over.  And it only took 5 days.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I must text someone… anyone…

.

3:20 pm
We have power!!

4:10 pm
Starting a load of laundry.  If power stays on for that, next is shower.  If not, maybe the clothes will at least get washed before it goes back out.

4:40 pm
Modem is dead.  Why oh why am I taunted so?  It was protected…

Later:
Have I mentioned how nice a hot shower feels? Aahhh…

.

.

Most people have their electricity back on.  Some just within the last couple of days.
Although we did have electricity over that weekend, many people did not.  Most local schools did not open until Tuesday,  and then they began an hour late.
This week local businesses and schools have return to “normal”.
Branches and limbs still litter road sides and lawns. Broken trees are our current skyline.  Vehicles are in need of repair as are homes.
Some people are asking what the ice storm means.  Some have moved past it and have fallen back in to their rut.  A few saw God in the beauty of light reflecting off a frozen world.  And still some may have saw it as glimpse of things to come…

Part 2 of 3

Part 1 Here (opens in this window)

Day 2:

Still no electricity.  Bed time is dark o’clock again.  We gave some of our thawing meat away so it would not be wasted.  What is still frozen will be left in the tent over night with the window slightly open.

A branch fell on our roof.  Hubby and I went outside with our flashlights to check it out, then tried to go back to bed.  Mainly, I laid there thinking about the branch above my bed that has not fallen.  I also spent time talking to God about knowing the difference between trusting Him and testing Him.  Eventually I passed out.  I blame the Benadryl.

.

.

Day 3:

The yogurt battle has begun.  “Who ate my last yogurt?!?”  I guess I know now the number of days before dairy becomes valuable.  Showers.  That is also a valuable thing.  We all could use one.  This may be tmi, but, well this blog is called waytmi. So… We Stink!  I think the layer of deodorant is about a 1/2 inch thick on me.  My hair is just plain nasty.  Wash, rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat next shower.

(This is a 3 post series.  Below is Part 1)

I know this is a little late.  Although I have had Internet back for about a week now, I have not really been blogging.

I didn’t know how long I would be without electricity once it went out. The electric company said 2 to 6 weeks before everyone had power back. Local authorities were saying 2 weeks until electricity was restored. I ended up being out for only about 5 days, and 7 without net. At the time of typing this, people I know are still without power.

Below is taken from my “blogging notebook” (ink pen and paper), written by flashlight, candlelight or sunlight.

Ice Storm Chronicles:

Day 1:
I woke up around 9. It was nice to sleep in. However, before I was even able to make breakfast “Pop Pop Pop” and off goes the electricity.

Breakfast was a peanut butter and honey sandwich.  This kept the fridge closed.

I took a few photos of ice covered trees, tires, steps and such.  Hubby cleared off our steps and kept me company.  My camera battery is low so my photos will be limited.

A friend of mine received a text whining about my lack of electronics, I mean, electricity.  After a few exchanges I noticed my cell battery was low.

It’s almost 8:00 pm.  We’ve been in bed for almost 2 hours.  Bed time is dark. By that, I mean when darkness fell, we all went to bed.

Hubby asked if I was blogging as I reached for my pen and paper.  I said “No.”  We both laughed and he rolled over.  By flashlight I write as I listen to him snore and trees cracking.  Earlier we laid here watching flashes of light, trying to figure out what they were.  Cars?  Transformers?

There was a loud crack.  Another big branch must have fallen.

Oh you know when you read the title you threw in “Baby”, didn’t you?

First off, I’d like to thank Austin for leaving a comment for all to read stating that I would be away for a while.  Thank you, Austin!!

Thankfully, I only had about a week of no electricity. There are still some in the area who are without power. They don’t have electricity either. *insert corny joke music here*
Everything in my fully stocked refrigerator and freeze had to be tossed out… again. On the bright side, it is so pretty and clean in that cold empty box right now that I almost don’t mind being foodless.  Plus, the whiteness of milk matches.  See, you just have to look and you can find the bright side.

Anyhow, before I bable on for too long and scare you off, I’ll mention that there is a post coming up from my days away.  I just have to type it up (it’s written in a notebook)   I didn’t know how long I would be gone so I was ready for it to be weeks.  That’s what the esitmates were.  They (the electric company) said their expeirence was 6 weeks before everyone had power.  The local authorities were saying 2 weeks before most have power.

There are still trees down and limbs all over.  I have just a few photos of the ice.  My camera battery died, so I wasn’t able to get many pictures.

I’m trying to catch up on some blogs, on class, and on life.  Today is busy, so I don’t expect much net work done.  No pun intended.

So, that’s what has been going on here.
What’s been going on with you?

I hear the sleet as it collides with the frozen ground.  I hear the ice as it falls against my house.  I think of the cold, the slippery roads, those who must be out on such nights.  Police men.  Emergency workers. The homeless.

My mind is taken off my thought as my son laughs.  He is happy tonight.  He is spending time with my husband.  The man he calls “Dad”.  This is his second full night home this year.  He arrived back home around 2:30 am, Sunday morning.  My son laughs some more.

The tink-tink of ice falling from the sky plays on like a symphony.   Frozen rain against an assortment of surfaces, near and distant.  Heavy then light.  Music that chills one to the bone should they dare to dawn near to the sound.

I think of my daughter, who is asleep in the other room.  She is warm under her electric blanket.  She is warm with thoughts of my husband being home, keeping her safe. She goes to sleep with a smile on her face.

There is no school tomorrow.  The roads are not safe; the children should be kept safe.  The teacher will sleep in tomorrow.  They will sleep in as the world freezes around them.  Should the sun appear through the rain, the frozen rain, the world will shine around the teacher’s home.  Around my home.

Crystals.  Frozen crystals will hang from roof tops, from car doors, from window units and bird houses.  Branches and windshields, slick with shine.  Tink. Tink. Tink.  Distant and near.

Some where, far far away, ice on the ground is but a dream.  As the heat of summer beats down on them, their world heats up.  While my world is shutting down.  Shutting down only for a moment.

The moment seems long to me.  Days.
In reality, days is but a small moment in time.

My eyes grow heavy as I type.  The laughter winds down.  Soon my son will be in bed, safe and snug.  He too will fall asleep with a smile on his face. Content with the knowledge of his dad being home.  In the morning, he will sleep in. He will sleep while the world turns white out side his window.

Soon I too will fall asleep. I will sleep to the sound of ice falling all around this house.  I will thank my sweet Jesus for the roof over my head that I so complain about.  I thank my sweet Lord for seeing to my needs as I crawl into bed and under my blankets.

And my heart goes out to those who long for such comforts.

I will sleep.
Tink. Tink. Tink.

Welcome to the hormone roller-coaster ride.

Yesterday – the day after the pity party post – I started (but didn’t complete – obviously) a happy dance post.
I received one of the packages I was waiting for in the mail.  I love getting good mail. Really, I do!

Yesterday was also a bit chaotic.  The cell was going crazy.  A call while on call while getting a text while getting a voice mail.  Aaahhhh!!

Last night the children and I went to a high school drama club production.  It wasn’t too bad.  I mean, I didn’t spot any outstanding talent that screamed “I’m headed to Broadway when this high school gig is up!”, but it wasn’t too bad.

Ever hear Larry the Cucumber sing Feliz Navidad?  That’s what it sounds like is playing in the back ground here.  Some how, I feel that is just wrong.  Is it just me?

Today the children and I go to Mother’s house to set up her tree and decorate it.  Ok, mostly her and the children, but I get to sit and watch. Actually, I’ll probably do updates on her computer in an attempt to avoid calls from her about them this week.

Speaking of this week, the forecast is simply dreadful.  I mean, it’s like all winter weathery.  Again, that just seem so wrong to me.  All the s-stuff is there for everyone to see.  Snow.  Sleet.  Stress. School-closing-potential.  It’s all right there, in little images of a tree branch with ice dangling.  Yuck.  Brr.

On the bright side, if I miss church service because of the slick (another s-word) roads, I’ll be able to download it later in the week.  I think it’ll be okay though.  The morning will be fine.  The slippery (there it is again, another s-word) roads probably won’t happen until late Sunday night or sometime Monday.  I said that already, didn’t I?  Or did I?

Okay, enough of this hodgepodge of random life glimpses. I’m off to get ready for the day.  I hear there are chips and salsa in plans. Not that Mother needed to bribe us to come do her tree, but free lunch is a nice bonus.  Right?

I’m tired.
Well, not really.
But I have been tired lately.

Maybe I can blame it on winter. I usually do.  I say I am hibernating.  I look forward to warm weather already.  As a friend pointed out – much to my dismay – I have a long wait (until spring is here).

The past several mornings though, I have been more tired than usual.
I have a history of bad dreams.  No biggie because, well, with a history of them, they aren’t as disturbing as they would be if they were uncommon.  It is sort of “the norm”.  As a matter of fact, when they lessened, that was more disturbing to me.

At some point – within the last year or two (I’ve little to no sense of time) – there became a balance. “Regular” dreams and “Bad Dreams” had joint custody.  There were a few visit from “Dreams that are different” and a rare visit from the “Keep her awake for days” dreams.

But lately, the bad dreams have taken on a completely different… theme.  And this new theme leaves me exhausted.  I don’t think I’ve been staying up later.  I have been getting up earlier since Hubby went back to work.  But, not that much earlier.  It is my “old schedule”… old only meaning by a couple of months.  Also, I didn’t get up that early over the recent holidays.

They started before Hubby went back to work, so I cannot say that is my mind processing that change.  Only this morning did I finally see a small thread of a potential theme.   I think I only saw that because I went back to sleep once the children were off to school.  This means I followed that dream to the end.

No, I won’t detail it.

I think my morning nap was over three hours long.  I woke up on my own (no alarm, no phone, no person woke me).  I’m not quite exhausted; I was ready to be awake.

I don’t know what tonight holds.  I don’t know if these dreams will return.

A while back, I read that adults rarely to never have nightmares.  What I was reading also stated that having them is a sleep disorder (as an adult, not as a child).  I do not know if this is true or not.  I only know that I have always regularly had nightmares.

Is it truly rare for adults to have bad dreams?
In general, how well do you sleep?
Do you ever have nightmares?
If you do, do they only seem to happen around certain times or events thus being an understandable process?
Do you believe your dreams (good or bad) are ever more than “just a dream”?

I do not like cold October 20, 2008

It is cold.  It almost kind of feels like… like… *sigh* like winter is on it’s way.

Have I mentioned that cold and I are not friends?   It’s true.  Cold makes me shiver.  It makes my toes go numb.  It makes my muscles ache.  It makes my mornings longer (as I have to wait for a vehicle to warm up).  It has been known to bring “the s word” and ice.  (“The s word” is s-n-o-w and snow is a bad word.)  Oh sure.  Cold and ice and “s”, they say, is needed to keep the tick and flea population down.  The ground needs a good freezing.  However, let me say, I have lived in places where it does not snow.  You know, like Southern Texas and Florida.  While living there I was able to walk through an entire mall and not be attacked by bugs.  Therefore, I say that this state will too survive if there is none of the cold stuff.

I’d try calling a boycott on winter weather.  I’d try writing my congressman.  I’d try getting people to sign a petition.  I’d chain myself to summer.  However, I don’t think any of that would have an affect on the weather.

I don’t like giving in.  I really don’t.  However, since I am suppose to be the responsible one, the parent, I shall drag out the flannel sheets, electric blankets and plan on a lot of oven made meals.  I guess I’ll also clean and rearrange so the the heater is no longer blocked.  Yup.  It might be time to light the ol’ flame and call it expensive heater time.

But, let me just say, for the record, in  case you missed it, I do not like cold!
