Oh, did I say that already? December 10, 2009Posted by L in General.
I have reentered the blog world. Nan, one of my old blog mates, even stopped by and commented, welcoming me back. The problem is, I don’t know where to go from here. I have started a couple of new posts, but life distracted me. Needless to say, they did not get finished.
One of the entries I was going to type was a post whining about the cold weather that seems to be setting in here. Then I realized, I probably did that the last winter I blogged. Actually, I probably do that every winter I blog. And that, my friends, is where I get stuck. What have I already said and not said? What is new and what is old information?
I guess, I’ll just say this: As I get back into the swing of thing, if I tend to repeat myself, just go with it. K?
What? A post? Here? Really? November 26, 2009Posted by L in Uncategorized.
Yes. Yes, it is Thanksgiving and I am waking up the old blog. Whether I’ll let it go right back to sleep or not, well, no telling. After all, it has been quiet here since May. And so much has happened!
I stuck to the diet and tossed in some exercise. I am now, actually, half way to my goal.
We moved to a newer house. It is still a rental, but it’s nicer. I have not finished unpacking even though it’s been long enough. I’ve been busy. Busy with what, you ask? Well, let me continue updating you…
I took that entrance exam (COMPASS I think it’s called) and began taking classes. That’s right, I started school over the summer. What a way to begin! Note to non-traditional-potential-students: Starting full-time in the summer can be rough. Just sayin’
During the second summer session I had to drop my class. Summer classes are intense and you cannot fall behind. I had to have my gall bladder removed, so I dropped the class I was taking. I’m doing okay now and watching what I eat.
Which brings us up to fall and winter. The children and I are students; we are enjoying our time off (for Thanksgiving).
So, yeah, that’s me. I’d ask what you have been up to, but I’m guessing my few blog-mates have moved on to more active people. Eh, what the hey, I’ll ask anyhow…. just in case someone – old or new – actually stops by:
So, uh, what have you been up to?

Things are still going crazy here. Next we have something on the calendar every day during the week. More field trips for the children, a doctor’s appointment for Son, and even an entrance exam for me.
That’s right, an entrance exam. I haven’t been in school for more years than I care to share, so I am a bit concerned. However, much pressure was relieved when they told me that I can take it as many times as I want and it won’t effect anything until I start taking certain classes. Yay!
So, if you think of me on Wednesday morning, pray for my dusty brain to try to remember how to do stuff that I wasn’t in class for when it was taught.
….I think I just caused more stress for myself with that statement.

I like going to the movie theater. I enjoy it. Usually. There are times when it is not as fun as it could be. For example, there may be uncomfortable seats or rude co-viewers. Overall, though, it is something I like to do.
This weekend, I put going to the movies on my to-do list. There are a few films out that have caught my eye. Not all of them are family friendly however. Therefore, picking and choosing I must take into consideration more than what my “want” is. This is not uncommon since I often live the life of a married-single-parent. I sit through movies that I would not if I were alone. I sit through movies that I want to see, but think the child/ren would enjoy too. Rare is the moment where I go to a movie because I alone want to see the movie. And when that does happen, it is usually because somehow I got away, alone, without any specific reason or prior plans.
There is a movie out that I alone wanted to see. I think it will be okay for my children to see, too. There may be a may be a scene or two where we all close our eyes, but overall, I from what I hear, it will be an okay movie for us.
Saturday, Daughter spent the night at a friend’s house. Son and I went to the movies. We both wanted to see one that I did not think would be suitable for Daughter. Add to that, she has little to no background in the X Men series, I thought there might also be a lot of questions. Questions are good, but not during a movie without a pause button.
Anyhow, Son and I took this opportunity to watch the movie we both wanted to see. I had enough money (especially since we didn’t spend much at the concession stand) to see another movie. When Son finds out which movie, he is not pleased. He did not want to see it. I could have pushed the issue. I could have made him. I did not think it was worth it and let him win that one. I mean, I wanted to have a nice time. I did not want to sit next to a sulky teenager. He said the series, when he use to watch it, became boring. Boring?!? I told him that I have heard good feedback on the movie. He still had no interest in it.
It was kind of late. I was also a bit tired. So, as I said, I let him win. We did not watch it.
Of course, when I got home I pulled up movie trailers to see if they would spark his interest. I think we watched 3 of them. Still no real interest, but a maybe.
Sunday after church, times did not work out well for our schedule. So, Daughter, Son, and I did not make it then either. I tried though. I worked around my “need to do” in my head with the length of the movie and the times it was showing. Nope. It was not going to happen that Sunday. I was disappointed. I mean, after all, aaaaallll the other mother’s got to do what they wanted! Okay, probably not, but what kind of pity party doesn’t serve a dish of exaggeration?
Monday rolls around and I try to put the movie out of my mind. There is no day time showing and the evening showings won’t work with our schedule.
So what happens next? Well, yesterday Son came home from school and said “Mom, I want to go see Star Trek. I hear it’s awesome!”
WHAT?!?! I reminded him that he was told that my friends gave it good reviews.
“Yeah, but you didn’t say it was awesome.”
Gah!! I told him that he just likes to be contrary as I was swatting at him. He just laughed and asked “Can we go tonight?”

The diet is going well. Thanks for asking. I don’t know if I have lost any weight, but I have been eating a lot of tomatoes. So, I’ll call it good.
Well, except for last night. Last night I was hungry. I mean, the kind of hungry where even if you are full you are hungry. The only thing that would have satisfied that hunger would have been movie theater popcorn with lots of butter. So, I ate some fruit and veggies. Didn’t satisfy but it filled me up.
It’s been raining a lot here. That’s probably no big surprise. I mean, rain is a part of spring, no? The big surprise is how slippery grass is! Plus, it was recently cut. So I have little piles of cut grass randomly placed in my yard and driveway. It’s a like trying to walk on a slip-and-slid in nylons during a tropical storm in some areas.
Today though the sun is shining. I don’t know how long it will last. I hope it will be sunny for a few days. We are in the time of year when school has several events and outings. For example, Friday Son has a field trip and Monday Daughter has one. Thursday is awards night. Yup, the end of the school year wind down has begun.
You know what else has begun? Season Finales. You do know what Season Finale means, right? It roughly translates to “Cruel on-the-edge-of-your-seat worse possible moment to end a show episode”! You know it does. I mean, we’ve all been there yelling at the tv. Usually it sounds something like this: “OH NO! you can NOT! leave it there!” or “Uh! They can’t die!!!” or “Bu.. I… How…. aarrrggh!” with hands thrown up in the air.
One show I watch tries to be kind. They nicely wrap up a season with a little bow of “end of chapter xx” and show you a glimpse of the next chapter/season. However, that’s just a minute or two taste. You still have to wait. It’s like bringing out the desert and giving you a sample of your favorite delight on one of those tiny disposable sample spoons and saying “Sorry, you can’t have it right now.” Cruel I tell ya! Cruel!
Now, if you’ll excuse me. I must make a diet-shake, open some windows and catch up on my on-line shows.

I started a new diet this week. Really, it’s not a bad thing. I’ve probably eaten more on this “diet” than I would have had I not been on the diet. I’m definitely eating healthier.
However, about a week ago I went to the store. I purchased some ingredients for a dinner I had in mind. Well, I ended up not making that dinner until tonight. THAT was hard because it is not something I ate. I had to serve it to the children and eat my own food. Again, not that my own food is bad, it’s not. It’s just, well I was so looking forward to the other that it was difficult to not even take a nibble.
Anyhow, it’s all good. Plus, Son just finished off the Ben & Jerry’s. That means, the real temptation has been removed…
…That is, until I make supper for them tomorrow night.
Do you ever diet?
If you do, what is the biggest challenge you face when you are dieting?

Yes. It is true. After a long silence, I am returning to the blogging world. What brings me out of hiding, you ask? Well, to tell the truth, Mandy did.
See, I recently tweeted that after many years without a microwave, I purchased one today. I’ll let that soak in for minute. …………. Yes, seriously. I have lived without a microwaves for more years that I can remember.
Mandy found this amazing. So, I though “Hey, I should blog about this.”
Truth be told, she is not the first to find this shocking behavior. My mother considered it some sort of twisted abuse that I dare make my family live without one. People have asked “How you heat things up?” “Is this some sort of cult deal you are into?” and “Is it for health reasons?”
Ok first the one that makes me laugh: I heat things up using the stove top or oven. I make popcorn in my air popper.
Next: No, it is not some sort of cult restriction. It is a personal choice that has nothing to do with any religious belief.
Finally: Yes and no to the health. Microwaves are shady, in my opinion. I mean, have you ever really thought about what they are? There are no pacemakers or any medical restrictions causing me to live micro-wave-less. It is just my own mind thinking too much about how the food is heated. Oh, and seeing a microwave leak detector. That simple.
So, now, after all this time, I have broken down and purchased one. Why? Well, that’s a whole other post. But it boils down to something new I am trying that requires a microwave.
See, it is all rather simple.
But now, let me ask you…
If your microwave broke today, how long do you think you could hold out before buying a new one?

Hubby has been in town. I like when he’s town. His new job is good; he travels a lot with this job too.
Daughter loves the movie Eragon. It arrived yesterday (Netflix) and she just found out today. It’s playing right now and she’s very excited.
Son went to a bowling tournament. Hubby went with him while I stayed home. Son said he did pretty good.
I went to see two, yes two, movies yesterday. I went by myself. It would have been nice to go with a friend, but the one who wanted to go lives about 1200 miles away.
I have been rather net-absent. I have spent a little time on-line. Mostly “watching t.v.” but a little play too. I have actually spent time in FaceBook. That is amazing because really, I don’t understand it’s popularity. I mean, I can see how it could be popular, but I just didn’t find it very addicting. I guess I don’t feel the need to reconnect with the people that I knew at the 5 different high schools I went to. Plus, I am very much NOT the same person. Okay, maybe very few of us are, but still…
However, now, I’m on there playing some silly game that has pretty much no point. Why do I keep going back and playing? I don’t know. But when I get home from HT tonight, I plan to start a load of laundry and sign on to FB and play. That’s right. I said it. I plan to log in FB AGAIN tonight.
Well, I’d babble some more, but I have to go. HT starts in 30 minutes and I have to stop at the store on the way.
Hope ya’ll are having a great weekend.

A few days ago I was quite mean to a friend. He said “Have you started yet or is it still a week away!” It was more of an accusation than a question.
I became irritated.
A couple of days ago, I noticed that I was wearing my fake smile. A lot. I noticed that I was starting to disconnect. Disconnect from the world. Slipping into recluse mode.
Last night, I watched the final show of True Beauty (or something like that). I hadn’t watched a full season, just the last few episodes. I was not attached to any contestant. Still, when they announced the winner, I became a bit teary eyed.
I noticed that chocolate doesn’t taste so bad right now either.
This morning, I heard a commercial. I don’t remember what the product was, but I did the cry that was a laugh. Or was it the laugh that was really a cry. A commercial. On the radio.
Ice cream was a staple food this week too.
*sigh* I think I might have “a visitor” soon.
No, I won’t tell my friend he was right. Because, well, that is just wrong. However, I might send a message to Tam and find out more about her hormone pills. Maybe she can email some to me…
Laziness Stole My Week! March 5, 2009Posted by L in Computer, Friends, General, Life, Random, TV.

A friend invited me to go walking with her today. That really interferes with my plan to dominate the world with passivity and laziness. You know, to properly master being lazy is much more work than it should be. I’m just sayin’
I did skip working out again today. I blame my toe. I’ve been (what I call) medicating it since last night. So, I think I’ll be okay to walk. You know, other that it completely and totally contradicting my lazy plan.
Speaking of plans… I did have big plans that included massive cleaning and a daily workout routine, but that kind of fell by the way side. I ended up eating poorly and watching too much (on-line) t.v.
I mean, seriously, LOST, HK, Heroes, Chuck, The Terminator: TSCC, Fringe, Bones… Can you blame me?
And thanks to a friend, I have added another show to the list. See, she told me about a show on TNT. I hadn’t actually seen the show myself. So, it only made sense that I should go to the site and check it out, right? Well, while I was there, I discovered some episodes of The Closer I hadn’t seen. Well, you can bet your whole bag of Smarties that I watched what was available there. And while I was on-site, I checked out one other show called Leverage. Hooked. That’s all I can say. Hooked. It cracks me up much like Bones does. I can see the old me so much in one of those characters. Don’t worry about which one. And then, a couple of the guys in the show… How comical. I know both those types. I love the characters because it’s just… they’re funny.
Hey, I only claim to have a sense of humor. I don’t recall saying it’s a GOOD one, just that it exists. K? K.
Anyhow, the computer and my toe and the ice cream have completely stolen all my time this week. S-L-A-C-K-E-R!!!
On the bright side, I’ll have plenty to do this weekend. Yes?
